Lauren Conrad hasn’t followed in many of her former co-stars’ footsteps. Instead, she continually finds a way to put her best foot forward and rise above the reality television star stereotype. L.C. gave us a stylish and classy reality check on how to handle the business and get your foot in the door in the industry. Let’s take a step in the right direction, shall we?
Why we love her: Lauren is not just a beauty and fashion expert, she is an author, blogger, designer…all this at only 26 years old!
We must know your secret to managing multiple projects. How have you accomplished so much so quickly?
It’s all about time management and prioritization. That said, it’s key to occasionally take a step back and refocus when things become overwhelming – take things one step at a time. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that not everything can be done at once.
Since you were a reality television star, do you feel even more pressure to prove yourself in other areas?
Definitely. There is an especially negative connotation attached to “former reality star” that is difficult to rid oneself of in this industry. However, I like challenges and think that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
The sad reality is that not everyone is as positive as you. How do you overcome the bitterness or negativity that may come into your life?
I honestly just ignore it and instead focus on all the positives in my life. The sooner you learn that it’s impossible to please everyone, the happier you will be.
What advice can you give other young women who are trying to make it in the fashion industry?
Take on as many internships as possible, and be prepared to work hard. Fashion is not for the faint of heart.
Who were some of your favorite designers at New York Fashion Week?
I really loved all the shows I went to. A few highlights were Rebecca Minkoff, Jenny Packham, and Badgley Mischka. Honestly, the entire experience is always a whirlwind so I was glad that I kept a Fashion Week Diary on my website so I could look back on everything I saw.
What is your favorite fashion trend for this season?
I really love the idea of playing with texture for fall. Knits, tweeds, wools — you name it.
We know you love dressing up. What are some of your ideas for Halloween costumes?!
Yes! Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays. I’ve got a few costume ideas for myself that I won’t be revealing until closer to Oct. 31. Until then, I’ll be blogging about costumes on my website, LaurenConrad.com, and maybe even dropping a few hints here and there, too.
We must know, what is your favorite pair of heels?
Honestly, my black LC Lauren Conrad pumps are probably my favorite. I wear them all the time, and they are really comfortable. Although, I also love my new bow-toe Louboutins, too.
Whether it’s something you have accomplished or even an outfit, what makes you feel totally fab?
Having a good laugh with good friends…and red lipstick too.
With all the traveling you do, how do you stay so fit?
I try to stay as active as possible in my off time and make smart eating decisions when I travel. I try to sneak in a quick walk or take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible.
When you have some time off, what do you enjoy doing just for fun?
I really love spending time with my family and friends. Since work takes up most of my time, I really value just hanging out and laying low with the people who matter most to me.
We are so excited about your clothing line, Paper Crown! What else should we expect to see from you this year?
Oh, thank you! I am pretty excited about it myself. It’s been a labor of love, and I cannot wait for everyone to shop our Holiday collection. It’s full of lovely fabrics and really flattering silhouettes that are perfect for holiday parties and get-togethers.
Lauren’s positivity and passion continues to keep us on our toes and Head Over Heels for this entrepreneur!
