DREAM CHASER

For 5 years I put my blog first and whatever job second. I would post 2-3 times a week and spent hours on Photoshop building the perfect article. I wrote on the train ride into work, Sunday afternoons at Barnes & Noble, and I swear writing even cured my hangovers. After a while it killed me that I couldn’t give this blog my all because of the job I had. My parents agreed to give me 6 months focus on my blog if I worked hard and made enough money. I was 23, fearless, passionate… And in for a ride.

Everything was going well in the beginning. I had more time to network my ass off and build relationships with people in the fashion and entertainment industry. Phone call with Leah Jenner? No problem. Interview Carmelo Anthony? Done. You could no longer find me in Barnes & Noble, I was a girl on the go and no one could stop me.

I challenged myself to make every post more creative than the last. It wasn’t just a “blog post” it was a full on slide show with graphics, a Instagram flipagram, a photoshoot- it was my baby. I taught myself new tricks and took a course at NYU to learn how to code and use HTML.

About 5 months later and a very low income from my sponsored posts, I started having second thoughts. On top of that, something I loved, my therapy, wasn’t fun anymore. It dawned on me that my time was almost up, and that was ok.

At first I thought maybe I wasn’t ready. That’s probably true, but when are we ever really ready start a new career or a new beginning? Many of us feel we’re ready, but never take the chance. Well, I’m happy I took mine.

It’s been almost a year at my current job and I continue to be humbled by the fact that I don’t know it all. There’s so much left to learn and I’m excited to go to work everyday knowing I’ll be faced with a new challenge.

In the end, I’ll always believe in chasing a dream but I’m no longer afraid that dream is running away from me. We’ll meet again soon.

Stassi Schroeder Serves Up A Reality Check

Remember all the dished up drama from Bravo’s reality TV show, Vanderpump Rules? Although there wasn’t any table flipping like we’ve seen on The Real House Wives Of New Jersey, the tables turned once Stassi Schroeder made the decision to excuse herself from Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant, Sur, and therefore leaving the hit show (can you say, check please?!)  Well, I recently caught up with the Fashionista and had my very own reality check. While chatting at the cozy cafe, The Smile, on the Lower East Side, Stassi shared with me how taking a leap of faith and being courageous can result in true happiness. Her move to New York to focus on her new fashion venture had her smiling from ear–to-ear.

How has the transition been for you moving from Los Angeles to New York?
It has been really nice and only solidifies my choice to be here instead of LA.  I have found that New Yorkers are super friendly and open minded, so it hasn’t been difficult to meet new people. It has been so much easier than I imagined it would be to make new friends and develop business relationships.  I also love being downtown, walking to SoHo and creating new experiences!

Can you describe your typical day?
I wouldn’t say that I necessarily have a routine; maybe just a morning schedule that I follow. Since I am now on my boyfriend’s schedule I wake up around 7:30am, catch up on my favorite fashion blogs and then hit the gym for about an hour. My afternoons are usually spent running errands and meeting with different designers and accessory brands. I consider each day to be a new adventure, and don’t have any expectations as I did when I was living in California. I don’t know what lies ahead, but right now I am in the midst of developing my own blog and am very excited about that.

You seem in such a good place right now. Is it due to your new relationship?
Being in such a healthy and normal relationship makes it easy to be happy. My boyfriend, Patrick, has helped me realize what I am worth and that I deserve happiness. Being with him has helped me find myself, and I am now in this amazing city where I feel very much at home.  I am also finally doing what I have always wanted to do, which is so refreshing, since in Cali I didn’t have all the opportunities that I have now living in NY.

How has your beauty routine changed since moving to New York?
Well, the biggest change has to be that I cut my hair short and have recently found different ways to style it. I am finally getting used to that major change. Also, when it comes to a beauty routine, I have to say my skin is so dry in NY that I definitely need to moisturize much more often than I used to in LA.

What beauty tips do you swear by to get bikini ready for Spring/Summer?
The detox wrap you saw me get on Vanderpump Rules takes about an hour and afterwards you feel like you just had a great work out. It’s so insanely hot and really hard to sit through; but in the end, it’s so worth it. You lose so much water weight; it’s truly euphoric and feels like you spent the day at a spa. Something else I swear by is…SPRAY TANNING! I used to spray tan once a week or 2-3 times a month when I was living in LA, but when I moved here, I realized that people don’t really go tanning. So, I didn’t spray tan for two months, and then I finally gave in and went hunting for a Mystic Tan. Now I feel I am myself just living in NY. I brought the California girl to New York. So to answer your question, definitely get yourself a spray tan…and maybe a good wax!

Life’s Best Moments Are Unedited

While on the set of the La Fiorentina Fall 2013 photo shoot, I began to realize that our own lives can mimic what was going on right in front of me. It hit me that organizing, preparing and focusing on a specific goal are as essential in real life as they were for planning the perfect picture.la fiorentina

Reaching goals and becoming successful don’t just happen because we want them to; it requires a lot of hard work. I witnessed that first hand when I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to capture some unpredictable moments behind the scenes in these photos at the La Fiorentina shoot; they are priceless and those candid moments are what set them apart from all others!

Although nothing beats that perfectly planned portrait, it’s what goes on behind the scenes that truly make it all come together and create that lasting image.

Sometimes our own vision of life may become blurry and unfocused, especially when what we originally pictured has developed into something much different. Those are the times when we are our most authentic selves and should be open to new possibilities. When you realize those opportunities are gone in a flash, you should utilize them to create your own film.  You never know…your life may just turn out better than you ever could have imagined.  It’s time to get out of the dark room, and enjoy the shooting process…because life’s best moments are unedited!

giveaway

She sent you off to school in a warm coat, helped you pick the perfect prom dress, and even caved into buying you that risqué outfit that your father would definitely disapprove of…Who is this powerful female? I guess you can call her “Mom,” but that doesn’t really sum up just who she is because to you, she’s not like the rest of them! Revenge on Racks

On The Bachelor, After The Final Rose, Lindsay Yenter wore a sophisticated yet sexy white dress, sold on Singer22, proving that even though the door has closed on her and Sean Lowe’s relationship, an improved closet has opened! What a great way to say, “I won’t shed a tear for you, I’ll strike a pose instead.”

what Lindsey wore on bachelor finale

However, Lindsay isn’t the first lady to seek fashion revenge. Princess Diana wore a black silk dress by Christina Stambolian to a Vanity Fair dinner the same day her ex-husband, Prince Charles, admitted to marital infidelities. This gorgeous off the shoulder number became known as “the revenge dress” and certainly made fashion history.

Taylor Swift is another Fashionista who doesn’t just seek revenge with her music lyrics, but with her style as well. Taylor is notorious for kicking boys to the side and showing off some major side boob in return.

Sandra Bullock and Selena Gomez are other celebrities who have gotten revenge in the best fashion. Some perfect revenge styles include sheer, cut-outs, and sexy body-con dresses. These dresses are definitely trending for this season and can be found on my Pinterest board, “Revenge on Racks”.

So ladies keep your head, heels, and standards high, and remember that fashion speaks louder than words. They might not have been the best men, but lets thank them for helping us make it on the best dressed list! And when you can still use an extra confidence boost…here are some wise words by Beyonce:

Look Who’s Laughing Now.

tumblr_mf4zp7NPVc1rgguono1_500It has been about a week since Jennifer Lawrence fell at the Oscars and it is still being discussed in the media. Whether people feel sorry for her, or they make a cruel joke about the incident, I am afraid this moment might haunt the actress for a long time. However, as the saying goes “It’s not how you fall, rather how you get back up.” I believe Jennifer has already taken the high road and has moved forward (after all she did walk away with an Oscar). Proving that no one is perfect, not even a model, I collected a few stumbles and slips on the runway, showing that we all have embarrassing moments from time to time!
